Goodnight Aerial Soundbath

A Magical Evening of Sound Healing in the Hammock

A Magical Evening of Sound Healing in the Hammock

Recently at the Yoga Dance Co, we hosted a beautiful evening of restorative aerial yoga paired with a live sound healing session—and let us tell you, the results were pure magic. Imagine being gently cradled in a silk hammock, the weight of the day melting away, as waves of soothing sound wash over you. It was more than just a class—it was a full-body, soul-nourishing reset.

This “Goodnight Aerial Soundbath” was led by Sherri Perez, a Certified Breathwork Coach and Reiki Master who is experienced in transformative energy healing practices like Reiki, Shamanic Journeys, and Sound Healing.

The women who came together for this event ranged across all ages and backgrounds, making it a magical evening of rest and sanctuary. The event also featured teas from herbalist and Naturopathic Practitioner Baba’s Iris, who was serving a delicious, calming blend of healing herbal tea as we began.

So what exactly is sound healing, and why does it pair so perfectly with restorative aerial yoga?

Sound healing uses vibrational frequencies—created by instruments like crystal singing bowls, gongs, and chimes—to help the body and mind relax, release tension, and realign energetically. These frequencies interact with the nervous system and brain waves, often helping people shift from a state of stress into deep relaxation. Studies show that sound healing can reduce anxiety, improve sleep, lower blood pressure, and enhance mental clarity. It can even help release emotional blockages stored in the body.

During this session, we were guided through a meditative journey while gently floating in cocoons, turning inward and letting the sounds wash away anxieties and negative energy. The sounds gently guide the brain into a meditative state, promoting deep rest and healing. It’s a noninvasive, deeply calming practice that truly supports overall well-being. When paired with the gentle support of a restorative aerial practice, the effects can be profoundly grounding and rejuvenating.

The Benefits of Restorative Aerial Yoga

Unlike a more active aerial class, restorative aerial yoga is slow, gentle, and deeply relaxing. Using the hammock, your body is supported in restful poses designed to release tension, calm the nervous system, and promote healing. It’s a practice of stillness—a chance to pause, breathe, and be.

One of the most powerful aspects of this practice is the way the hammock supports your body. Whether you’re lying in a cocoon shape or gently swaying in a reclined pose, the sensation of being held creates a deep sense of safety and comfort. This support allows your muscles to let go, your breath to deepen, and your mind to quiet down.

Breathwork + Hammocks = The Ultimate Evening Reset

During our recent event, students spent time lying back in the hammocks while being guided through soft breathwork. This combination is incredibly effective for releasing the day’s stress. Breathwork activates the parasympathetic nervous system (aka “rest and digest”), telling your body it’s safe to relax. When you’re suspended in the hammock, free from the pressure of the floor, this effect is amplified—you can truly let go, both physically and mentally.

As the sound bath began, the room filled with the resonant tones of crystal bowls, drums, and gentle chimes. The vibrations rippled through the air and into the hammocks, creating a full-body experience of sound and sensation.

Some described it as “floating in a dream,” others as “the most relaxed I’ve felt in years.” Another felt as if she  was taken on a journey through the four elements: earth, water, wind, and fire. One thing was unanimous: everyone left feeling lighter, calmer, and more connected.

Your Invitation to Unwind

At the Yoga Dance Co, we love to offer a wide variety of events and classes, so there is always something for everyone. This beautiful combination of restorative aerial yoga and sound healing offered a powerful way to unplug from the noise and reconnect with yourself. So come as you are, breathe deeply, and allow yourself to be held—by the hammock, by the sound, and by the moment.

Your nervous system will thank you.

Does this sound like something you’d like to try? We’d love to hear your thoughts, so be sure to connect with us!
